Welcome!
Welcome to Texas A&M University's and the Texas A&M Health Science Center's online portal for information about the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).
The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) was established by passage of House Bill 14 during the 2007 Texas Legislative Session and also made possible by Proposition 15, approved by Texas voters in the same year. The language of House Bill 14 spells out the institute's purpose: to "[c]reate and expedite innovation in the area of cancer research and breakthrough in the prevention of cancer and cures for cancer." Updates were made to the legislation in 2009, with House Bill 1358.
House Bill 14 Funding Priorities
Texas colleges and universities' role was also clearly defined: "Attract, create, or expand research capabilities of public or private institutions of higher education and other public or private entities that will promote a substantial increase in cancer research and in the creation of high-quality new jobs in this state."
Texas A&M University and the Texas A&M Health Science Center are proud to be a part of this effort. This website is designed to provide researchers across the state with information about funding opportunities and solicitations offered by CPRIT, and to facilitate access to Texas A&M programs and scientists involved in cancer research.
CPRIT will be providing funding for the following key foci for cancer research:
- Translational Research (35%)*
- Clinical Research (30%)*
- Commercialization (15%)*
