AAPO First Friday Lecture Series

May’s First Friday Lecture features “An Overview of the Role of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for the Texas A&M University System” presented by Frank B. Ashley III, vice chancellor, Office of Academic Affairs, The Texas A&M University System. The focus of the presentation is on Ashley’s role as vice chancellor and the coordination of academic and student affairs program development, implementation and accountability, including performance-based funding for the A&M System’s nine universities and the A&M Health Science Center. The lecture will be held Friday, May 2, 2008, in Room 111, Koldus Building on the Texas A&M University campus.  Lunch will be provided to registrants at 11:45 a.m., and the lecture will begin at noon.

Ashley has served in a variety of roles, including teacher, coach and administrator. For 21 years, he served in several positions at Texas A&M University in College Station, including interim assistant provost for enrollment, director of admissions and associate dean for undergraduate studies and teacher education in the College of Education. Recently he served as interim provost and vice president for academic and student affairs at Texas A&M University-Commerce and as a school board member of the Commerce Independent School District. Among his many responsibilities as vice chancellor for academic affairs, he also leads efforts to expand enrollment of community college transfer students to System universities and leads development of comprehensive distance education initiatives.

Ashley received his doctorate from the University of Alabama. He has numerous publications and presentations and is active in many professional organizations. He has also received numerous honors and awards, including distinguished alumnus and citizen of the year awards.
