The lecture will be held Friday, April 4, 2008, in Room 111 of the Koldus Building at Texas A&M University. Lunch will be provided to registrants at 11:45 a.m., and the lecture will begin at noon.

Dr. June Martin is lecturer in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, and assistant director, Center for Housing and Urban Development, College of Architecture at Texas A&M University. Martin received her master’s in housing and consumer economics from the University of Georgia. Before coming to Texas A&M, she held positions with the Child and Family Research Unit at Washington State University and the Center for Housing and Demographics at the University of Georgia.

Martin’s areas of interest include affordable housing, community development and housing policy. She has over 10 years experience as a researcher in the housing and community development field, working collaboratively with community partners and residents in the planning and development of housing and other community development programs to meet the needs of community residents, particularly lower-income and other vulnerable populations. This work includes coordinating outreach projects with the city of Beaumont, Texas, as well as conducting housing studies for the Brazos Valley Affordable Housing Corporation, and the Athens-Clarke County and Fulton County governments in Georgia to formulate strategies and action plans that address the housing needs of low and moderate income households in the respective communities.

The First Friday Lecture Series is a program of the African American Professional Organization (AAPO), held the first Friday of the month and sponsored by the Division of Research and Graduate Studies.
