McMurdo Station Featured at International Meetings

Mahlon “Chuck” Kennicutt II, professor of oceanography and director of sustainable development at Texas A&M, will discuss the McMurdo Station Long-Term Environmental Monitoring Program in Antarctica at two international meetings in June: the XXXI Antarctic Treaty consultative meetings being held June 2-13 in Kyiv, Ukraine, and the 6th International Conference on Contaminants in Freezing Ground June 22-27 in Fairlee, Vermont. Kennicutt is a science advisor on the U.S. State Department delegation that will present the program at the Antarctic Treaty meeting before the Committee for Environmental Protection. He will deliver a keynote address focusing on McMurdo Station at the Conference on Contaminants in Freezing Ground in Vermont.

Texas A&M and partner organizations have been observing and quantifying the impact of human disturbance caused by science and support operations at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, for more than 8 years.
