OPD Seminars and Workshops Information
A wide variety of training seminars and workshops are available through the Office of Proposal Development (OPD). Here is a list of regularly-scheduled programs. OPD also offers a number of special one-time training programs throughout the year. Check the OPD website for complete information on training offered by the office.
- Craft of Grant Writing One-Day Seminar: Mid-August (before Fall Semester classes start)
- Fall Semester-Long Grant Writing Workshop (for faculty who are ready to start writing a grant proposal due December or later): September - December
- Seminar for Faculty: Instrumentation Grants and How to Compete for Them: Early to mid-September
- Seminar for Texas A&M System Faculty offered via TTVN: Instrumentation Grants and How to Compete for Them (with special emphasis on competing as a predominantly undergraduate institution): Early to mid September
- Seminar for Students and their Faculty Mentors: Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships: September (offered in partnership with the Office of Graduate Studies and the Office of the VP and Assoc. Provost for Diversity)
- Seminar for Students: How to Find and Compete for Graduate Fellowships: September (offered in partnership with the Office of Graduate Studies)
- Seminar for Post-docs, Senior Graduate Students and New Faculty: How to Find and Win Research Funding (includes breakout sessions on funding agencies): November
- Seminar for Junior Faculty: How to Compete for the NSF CAREER and other Young Investigator Grants: November/December
- Informational Meeting for Faculty Teams: The NSF IGERT Program - background, requirements and lessons learned: December/January
- Spring Semester-long Grant Writing Workshop (for faculty who are ready to start writing a grant proposal due May or later): Starts January - ends April
- Seminar for Texas A&M System Faculty offered via TTVN: How to Compete for the NSF CAREER and other Young Investigator Grants (with special emphasis on competing as a faculty from a predominantly undergraduate institution: February (offered in partnership with the TEES Office of Strategic Research Development)
- Spring Panel Series - Panels of faculty experts are invited to talk and answer questions about a specific agency or type of proposal: Held throughout the spring (subjects usually include "strategies for success at NIH" and "competing for NSF funding" as well as special topics, which may vary)
- Seminar for Faculty: Developing a Postdoc Mentoring Plan (offered in partnership with the Office of Graduate Studies): March/April
- Seminar for Graduate Students: The NSF Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Dissertation Research Improvement Grant: June
